Unilab, SM Bicutan launch Mall Walkers Club Wednesday, March 21, 2012
THE Unilab Foundation, in conjunction with SM Bicutan, Paranaque, will launch the 'Mall Walkers Club of Barangay Don Bosco Senior Citizens on March 25. This project is in line with the United Bayanihan Foundation's thrust on "Active Aging" for its initial program for senior citizens nationwide. The project is compatible with both companies' corporate social responsibility initiatives addressing the health issue of "Building Healthier Communities."
Mall walking adds years to life and life to years; helps control weight; cuts the risk of heart disease, diabetes and stroke; controls blood pressure (physical activity keeps blood flow normal); helps boost good cholesterol; keeps bones, muscles and joints strong; and helps maintain healthful and long life span. Malls have the distinct advantage of shielding their walkers from the effects of the weather; isolate them from vehicular and pollution; take care of their security; and provide well-appointed restrooms. Mall-walking sponsors provide regular health checkups; health or physical education; special discounts on certain items; freebies (T-shirts, pens, medicines, caps); free viewing of celebrity events; free news letters flyers; and media exposure.
Mall walkers must apply for membership to maintain attendance.
