The SM Mall of Asia in partnership with the Metropolitan Museum recently showcases living Culture: Contemporary Indian Textiles and Fashion adapted by the current crop of designers in India. The exhibit, which will be at the mall until February 5, will make a tour of SM's premium malls at the SM Megamall Atrium from February 6-17 and at The Block at SM City North EDSA from February 18-28.
The exhibition Living Culture is visualized to showcase the best of traditional techniques and textiles from India as adapted by designers today. The collections are developed keeping in mind tastes and aesthetics of urban consumers in the global context.

SOFT ROMANTICS: The collection presents wrap blouses, corsets and T-2 blouses using the luxurious silk from Kashmir, teamed with flowing polysilk skirts. The floral embroidery is made with finest quality 'sozni' needlework using delicate creepers
Clothes, accessories, and home fashions are conceptualized under three thematic ideas - Romantic, Bohemian Chic, and Allure of the Exotic. These thematic areas offer an exciting framework for the exhibition. The picture is kaleidoscopic allowing for inclusion of traditions and techniques across the country.
The fashion garments featured in this exhibition have evolved, bearing the symbiotic relationship between fashion and tradition. Forms have been restructured, colors reinvented, and materials explored to reveal the beauty of traditional textiles and skills.
HUES FROM NATURE: a collection of home fashions which brings back the glory of 17th century bright coloured Indian cotton "Kalamakir" from southern coast of the subcontinent
Most of the pieces in the exhibit have been produced with contemporized traditional craft. The potential benefits of creative innovation in a traditional society must be properly recognized in the Indian subcontinent - where craft is an economic and social activity.
The exhibition Living Culture seeks to open to mall goers a glimpse of the tapestry of Indian textile techniques. The dexterity of Indian craftsmen and a deeper understanding of the efforts by the designers to carry forward a richly diverse legacy.
Don't miss Living Culture at the SM Mall of Asia until February 5, at the SM Megamall Atrium from February 6-17, and at The Block at SM City North EDSA from February 18-28.
