TODAY’s Independence Day celebration at SM City will be highlighted by the unveiling of Vjandep pastels shaped as Philippine flag.

Ivy Guantero, SM City public relations officer, said for the past three years, Virgilio Jose and his wife who own Vjandep have been graciously offering their pastels every Independence Day.

Guests will later be invited to taste the pastels.

Aside from the unveiling of flag-shaped Vjandep pastels, SM City is also holding a three-day Independence sale and has prepared an activity to mark today’s historic celebration.

The activity will kick off with a parade which will start at the mall’s parking area to be followed by a flag raising activity to be held simultaneously in all SM malls in the country.

Guantero said the parade will be held around the mall to be joined by mall tenants, affiliates, guests and administration employees to be assisted by a marching band.

“The flag raising activity will start after the parade and will be followed by a short program and balloon releasing activity signifying our independence,” she said.

The program will be held at the event center where the Gintong Amihan dancers will show off their moves to entertain the shoppers.

In line with the celebration, Guantero said some employees of SM City will be impersonating notable Filipino heroes who have helped the country gain its independence.

She said there will also be a balagtasan and a community singing to add fun to the whole-day activity. (Nicole J. Managbanag)
