Cheerdance at SM MOA Arena Monday, September 24, 2012
Tempo Manila, Philippines – The UAAP takes a breather from the hotly-contested basketball competitions today as the league stages its annual cheerdance competition at the Mall of Asia Arena.
University of the Philippines is favored to win its third straight title and eighth overall as ardent followers of the sport see them do another glittering performance in front of a big audience.
But the seven other schools are out to make an impression in hopes of ending the title reign of the Diliman-based cheerers.
Expected to give UP a run for its money are Far Eastern University, University of Santo Tomas and La Salle, which last year pulled off a stunning second place finish after years of languishing near the cellar.
FEU, a group composed of some members of the National Gymnastics team, won the 2009 event while UST, once the pillars of cheerdance, is out to end its six-year title drought. UST holds the most number of titles with eight. UP can equal that feat with a victory.
Perennial pushovers Ateneo, Adamson, University of the East and host National University, on the other hand, are aiming to prove doubters wrong.
Meanwhile, tickets for the event have been sold out since Thursday, according to officials of Mall of Asia Arena and its ticketing arm, SM Tickets. (Jonas Terrado)
