MANILA – (UPDATED 3:22 p.m.) The country’s biggest mall operators have reopened their shopping centers in Cebu today after they ensured the safety of the buildings following yesterday’s 7.2-magnitude earthquake.

In a statement, Ayala Land Inc (ALI) affiliate Cebu Holdings Inc said Ayala Center Cebu will resume operations today after its consultants declared the property as “structurally safe and sound.”

Cora Guidote, SM Investments Corporation senior vice president for investor relations, said SM City Cebu opened at 12 noon and SM City Consolacion followed an hour later.

“SM structural engineers cleared both malls to open and Cebu City engineers did not find any material reason not to allow resumption of operation,” Guidote said.

Rose Ann Villegas, Robinsons Land Corporation (RLC) corporate public relations manager, said mall operations at Robinsons Fuente and Robinsons Cybergate Cebu were back to normal today.
