SM Prime Holdings Inc. has built bus bays in SM Megamall in Mandaluyong and SM North Edsa in Quezon City to provide safety for the riding public and ease traffic congestion on the stretch of the Edsa thoroughfare.

The bus bay facilities aim to enable smoother traffic and make it safer for commuters as they wait for the buses within premises that are fully lighted and manned by the mall’s security personnel.

The project started at SM City North Edsa, the first mall in Metro Manila to provide this type of unique service to customers, contributed to decongesting traffic around northern Metro Manila. This was duplicated in SM Megamall.

SM City North Edsa’s bus bay has 9 lanes that can accommodate over 2,000 buses daily. SM Megamall has 7 lanes and room for 17 to 18 buses at anyone time. The accompanying car parks and transport terminals allow public bus access meant to improve Edsa traffic flow.

To benefit its public, SM ensures that these bus bays are maintained regularly guarded and kept safe and lighted well, making it a boon for both the public transport-riding customers of the mall and residents of the community, in close coordination with the Metro Manila Development Authority.
