SM PRIME Holdings Corp., the retail investment unit of taipan Henry Sy, will launch The Block at SM City North Edsa this weekend. The Block will expand SM North, the company’s pioneer shopping mall and among the most profitable, into the second largest mall in the country next only to SM Mall of Asia.

The Block occupies 16,076 sqm of land adjacent to the main mall. The gross floor area of 76,405 sqm includes a leasable area of 30,592 sqm and a covered parking area of 25,621 sqm.

This will expand the SM City North Edsa’s gross floor area to 351,824 sqm with a lot area of 185,799 sqm. SM Mall of Asia’s gross floor area us 386,224 sqm while lot area is 142,146 sqm. The third largest among SM Malls is SM Megamall with a ground floor area of 331,679 and lot area of 184,411. The three supermalls are in Edsa with SM City North and the SM Mall of Asia strategically located at the north and south end, respectively. Both locations are considered gateways to provincial pedestrian traffic.
