AS the country’s premiere technology based science center, the Nido Fortified Science Discovery Center and Planetarium again takes on the role of making learn more fun and engaging through technology as it launches its iPlay, iLearn Hub at the SM Mall of Asia in Pasay.
A joint project of the NFSDC, Vibal Publishing House, Inc., and the Department of Science and Technology, the iPlay, iLearn Hub is an interactive station where children together with their parents and teachers, can explore different modes of learning through play.
The iPlay, iLearn Hub features touch screen game consoles where concepts from different subjects like English, Filipino, Science, and Math are incorporated into interactive drills, which students of all ages can enjoy. Motor and critical thinking skills can also be enhanced through the dance, sport, and mystery games available in the stations. Kids can also develop the love for reading through Chikiting Books, the children’s book line of Vibal Publishing, available as storybook applications on iPad and Android tablets.
The hub also features the STARBOOKS from the DOST-Science and Technology Information Institute. STARBOOKS, which stands for Science and Technology Academic Research-Based Openly Operated Kiosk, is a science library in a box. It is a one-stop S&T information source containing over 500,000 digitized reference materials ranging from articles, journals, manuscripts and others in text, video, and audio formats.
The new gallery also includes special exhibits on the history of books and different careers in the field of Science and Technology, as well as a mini library of books from Vibal Publishing House and journals from DOST.
Vibal Publishing House president Esther Vibal and vice president Nita Vibal Mata, Congressman Angelo Palmones of the AGHAM Party List, and DOST Science and Technology Information Institute director Raymund Liboro shared honors during iPlay, iLearn Hub’s ribbon cutting ceremony.
