SM recently launched its new and stylish EcoBag designs at the SM Megamall Events Center with the theme, ‘I am In. Iam Involved.’ They are made from hard wearing non woven fabric bag that is sourced from 100-percent polypropylene, which is recyclable, nontoxic, allergy-free and nonreactive to the human skin. The latest Eco Bag collection features four new designs that deliver the message ‘Iam In. Iam Involved.
According to Annie Garcia (in photo), president of SM Supermalls, ‘People who will use the new SM Eco Bag will in a sense be saying that they are part of an environment advocacy and hopefully radiate to others the urgent need to sustain the environment. SM has had this advocacy for the past three years but this time we would like them to say ‘Yes’ to the cause and, at the same time, be responsibly stylish because the new SM Eco bag will both be functional and fashionable.’
This SM effort is aptly described by Lory Tan, chief executive officer for the World Wide Fund for Nature Philippines (WWF-Philippines) when he said, ‘Change is a process. It does not happen overnight. Sometimes, it is sheer persistence that makes all the difference. This latest version of the SM Eco Bag is one such example of how corporate leadership can create platforms for better solutions.’
The launch of the SM Eco Bag is SM Supermalls’ immediate response to its recent partnership with the UNDP detailing a two-year partnership that specified the observance of a UN International Year of Forests. This undertaking underscores environment conservation and protection; promotion of climatechange adaptation and mitigation and disaster-risk reduction; advocacy on peace, human rights and HIV prevention; empowerment of the youth, women and other vulnerable sectors. Joining SM in this undertaking are the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and key government agencies, such as the Department of Agriculture, Department of Environment and Natural Resources and UPLB College of Natural Resources.
SM’s new Eco Bags are now available at all SM Supermalls nationwide for only P35. They are just one of the many environmental projects headed by SM Cares, which promote long-term sustenance of the environmental, economic and social aspects of life for a sustainable future.
