SANTA ANA residents can now enjoy a one-stop shopping convenience at the heart of the city with the recent opening of the Savemore Market in Manila’s historic district.
Located along Pedro Gil, Plaza Calderon, in 1,625-square-meter store is the 39th Savemore branch in the Philippines. While it is serving a new generation of dynamic Manila residents, the presence of a 200-year-old Dita tree in the Savemore site reveals Santa Ana’s rich historical heritage.
Located on the southeast banks of the Pasig River, Santa Ana was originally a small settlement called Namayan during prehistoric times. The Spaniards later established settlements in Santa Ana through the Franciscans, who were the first to establish a mission beyond the walls on Intramuros. The Church, as it stands today, was first built in 1720 and is known as the National Shrine of Our Lady of the Abandoned.
And now with the opening of its latest branch in Santa Ana, Savemore, the dependable neighborhood grocery, goes a step further from offering the freshest selection of seafood, meat, poultry, fruits and produce to helping save the community’s heritage.
And truly it is saving more with its efforts to preserve the evergreen and graceful Dita tree that has watched over the busy Santa Ana streets through the years by providing an open courtyard facade that allows it to thrive.
The inspiring open courtyard concept gives shoppers a green shopping experience with trees in the heart of urbanized Santa Ana. In doing so, Savemore lives up to its tagline Here to Serve, by taking care of the past-preserving the Dita tree; and saving for the future by planting new narra trees.
This commitment to preserve Santa Ana’s rich heritage was evident during Savemore’s recent opening. Mayor Alfredo Lim, Councilor Honey Lacuna, Santa Ana Heritage Board Chairman Vilma Labrador and Fr. Andrew Litigio graced the occasion together with three Miss Earth beauties-Miss Earth International Nicole Faria of India, Miss Earth Air Victoria Shuchukina of Russia and Miss Earth Water Wattsapron Wattanakon of Thailand- SM’s Felicidad Sy, SM Supermarket President Herbert Sy, Herson and Hendrick Sy and Savemore VP for Operations Jojo Tagbo.
The opening ceremonies not only included the traditional ribbon cutting, but also narra tree planting participated by the Miss Earth beauties. Other guests included comedian Bayani Agbayani and Santa Ana resident Sunshine Cruz-Montano.
