WITH two malls in this historic province, there’s more reason for the SM Supermalls to celebrate Bulacan’s ‘Singkaban Festival.’ And SM City Marilao and SM City Baliwag have lined up events that highlight the history, culture and people of Bulacan.
Held every second week of September, the ‘Singkaban Festival’ – which is an acronym for ‘Sining at Kalinangan ng Bulacan’ – is celebrated in honor of the patron saint of the province, Our Lady of Victory. It showcases traditional arts of ‘Balagtasan,’ folk dancing and kundiman songs amidst a display of ‘Singkaban’ arches, which are delicately crafted from bamboo.
This year’s theme is ‘Kahapon, Ngayon at Bukas, Husay ng Bulakeno, Walang Kupas,’ and SM takes the cue with events that encompass the best of the past, present and future. And the best part is that visitors to SM Marilao can join in the fun while enjoying ‘Singkaban Specials’ until September 15, SM Advantage Card holders will also get double their points when they shop at the SM Department Store during this period.
Bulakenos will be brimming with pride as they view exhibits about their province: ‘Ang Kuwento ng Bagong Bulakeno Photo Exhibit’ organized by the provincial government at SM Baliwag’s Event Center, and ‘Ang Bocaue: Kahapon, Ngayon at Bukas’ organized by the Municipal Government of Bocaue at SM City Marilao. Both exhibits are scheduled until September 15.
The music and the beauty of Bulacan will also be showcased during the festival. The annual Ginoo at Mutya ng DepEd is scheduled at SM City Marilao on September 9-10. The Coronation Night will be held at SM City Baliwag on September 14.
Other activities at SM City Marilao celebrate present-day Bulacan: a Car Display of the Volkswagen Club of the Philippines Bulacan Chapter on September 12; and Singkaban Acoustic Nights at the Foodcourt on September 18 and 25.
GMA 7 stars Aljur Abrenica and Kris Bernal will make a stop at SM City Marilao on September 13 as part of their ‘All My Life’ mall tour. Capping the festivities is the ‘Singkaban Fireworks Display’ at SM City Marilao on September 11 and SM City Baliwag on September 12.
Celebrate the ‘Singkaban Festival’ at SM City Marilao and SM City Baliwag!
