Since SM City Marilao held its “1st Non-Handicapping Environment Training for its employees almost a year ago, the mall has been very busy improving its services to its customers.

Elevated pedestrian pathways have been added to SM Marilao amenities. But not only to SM Marilao’s but also to all SM Supermalls facilities to make special customers such as persons with disability (PWDs) feel welcome and at home at the mall.

Chime buzzers have also been installed to the toilets for PWDs and public phone booths were made handicapped friendly. Signage’s as well as priority lanes are up and about at SM Hypermarkets to build awareness and encourage other shoppers to lend their support towards accessibility.

Non-handicapping efforts have been mapped out and implemented in SM City Marilao and in all SM Supermalls so that PWDs, senior citizens and pregnant women, can move around with ease and enjoy shopping and dining, just like any other customers, through handicapped friendly facilities.

“We realize that we have the responsibility to take care of every customer who walks into our malls,SM Supermalls president Annie Garcia. SM facilities are designed for utmost accessibility from the time special customers park their cars at designated parking slots, as they go trough entrances, until the time they move around the mall through ramps and elevators.

Besides improving the facilities and intensifying accessibility information drive, SM also believes that gearing up its personnel to delight special customers is part of the company’s commitment.

Training sessions for managers and staff, janitors and security guards and tenants employees on how to serve physically challenged customers better are continuously being done since it was first conducted on Oct. 25, 2006. In fact, seminars for for these purpose were held last Feb. 22 and June 29.
