SM Prime Holdings Inc., the Philippines’ largest mall operator, will open its 35th mall in the country on Friday, nearly a week after a storm submerged more than three-fourths of the capital.

SM Center Las Piñas, the second such shopping center in the city, will be located along the Alabang-Zapote Road in Barangay Talon in Pamplona, Las Piñas.

SM Center Las Piñas is also the second mall to be opened this year after the inauguration of SM City Naga in Camarines Sur last May.

A third mall is expected to open in Cavite called SM City Rosario.

Early this year, the company also unveiled three expansion projects – the Sky Garden at SM City North Edsa, the annex of SM City Fairview, and the extension of SM City Rosales in Pangasinan.

SM Center Las Piñas, which has an area of 32,387 square meters, offers more than 500 parking slots and a terminal for public utility vehicles.

Its anchor tenants are SM Hypermarket, Ace Hardware, Watsons, and Banco de Oro, one of the Philippines’ largest banks, which is also controlled by the Sy family.

Other tenants include Jollibee, Savory Chicken, The Old Spaghetti House, and Inasal Chicken Bacolod, among others.

Considered as one of the cleanest and eco-friendliest cities in the Philippines, Las Piñas ‘provides a good venue for SM malls as we see a huge potential for growth and progress,’ Hans T. Sy, SM Prime president said.

Shares of SMPH remained unchanged at P10.50 during Wednesday’s trading at the Philippine Stock Exchange.

Earlier, the SM group’s retail unit said it will donate P10 for every P500 purchase in its malls to the GMA Kapuso Foundation to help rebuild schools in areas hit by storm Ondoy.
