Marilao, Bulacan – Here’s a piece of good news for young learners. The SM Malls in this town as well as the ones in Baliwag, San Fernando, Clark and Olongapo will hold a series of film festivals featuring environmentally themed movies and documentaries for grade school and high school students.

Dubbed the Green Film Festival (GFF), the project aims to educate and raise awareness on the current state of environment. It also hopes to encourage positive action towards preserving the ecosystem through the visual information campaign.

Films up for viewing are station-produced documentaries such as Ground Zero and Pagbangon. The short film Ground Zero features natural disasters here and abroad. It will also tackle about issues about the Philippines being located in the Pacific Ring of Fire, detailing the cities and provinces that are exposed to the natural hazards.

Pagbangon, on the other hand, is an award-winning documentary on the effect of super-typhoon “Yolanda” on survivors. It tells about the story of Filipinos recovering from the devastation brought by  “Yolanda” as documented by Filipino broadcast journalists.

Apart from the films and documentaries, the Green Film Festival likewise includes the Climate Change Commission’s five-minute info video on the 15 ways to LEDS (Low Emission Development Strategies).

The free screenings started on July 7 and will be held every third Tuesday of the month until March 2016.

Gladiz May Latiza, mall relations officer here said, the Green Film Festival is one of the many programs of SM Cares, the CSR arm of SM Prime Holdings Inc. under the Environment Committee.
