Feb. 07, 2015 – SM Foundation Inc. has begun screening applicants to its college scholarship program for school year 2015-2016.
In a statement, the foundation said screening has been held in Manila; Dasmarinas and Bacoor in Cavite; Cebu; Hernani, Samar; and Davao with more areas to follow.
According to Carmen Linda Atayde, SMFI executive director for Education, the grant is open to fourth year high school students from public schools with a weighted average of at least 88 percent in the second or third grading period.
Qualified applicants will be enrolled in any of the 83 partner colleges and universities of SM Foundation nationwide.
The scholars will enjoy free tuition for courses including BS Computer Science, IT, Information Management, Electronics & Communications Engineering, Computer Engineering, Civil/Electrical and Mechanical Engineering, BS Elementary Education, BS Secondary Education, and BS Accountancy/BSBA Majot in Accounting. “They also get a monthly allowances and in places where there is an SM Mall, students may get part-time jobs during summer or Christmas breaks to augment their allowance,” Atayde said during the orientation.
There are about 1,450 scholars at present, she said noting that the program has produced over 1,900 graduates since 1993.
