June activities
SM Book Nook in partnership with the National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP) celebrated the birth month of National Hero, Dr. Jose Rizal with a readathon of one of his most prolific books—El Filibusterismo—and a special interactive learning session on archaeology.
The community reading event held in partnership with Fully Booked is a collective read-aloud session which invited participants to revisit the themes, lessons, and historical significance of a classic piece of Filipino literature. With the event, Book Nook helped boost pivotal local literature to a wider modern audience through more accessible and engaging means.

“History is appreciation for all the roads that led us to where we are today, and archeology allows us to dig deep into those roads and find that our lives are founded on stories.” SM Supermalls Executive Vice President for Marketing, Joaquin San Agustin addresses the crowd of young learners joining the special session hosted by SM Book Nook in partnership with the NHCP.

Capping off the month of June, Book Nook Podium will also be celebrating fathers for a special weekend engagement called “A Chapter for Fathers” where visitors can gift a free big Hallmark card to their dads for a message in the community board.
“Book Nook was created to be a space where people can feel welcome to read, learn, imagine, and connect,” said Book Nook pioneer Shereen T. Sy. “In time for the resumption of classes, we hope more students, and communities will visit Book Nook and rediscover the joy of stories—not only as a way to learn, but as a way to spend meaningfully add to what they are learning in school.”
