(28 May 2009. Pasay City, Philippines.) SM Prime Holdings, Inc. (SM Prime), the Philippines’ dominant mall developer and operator will unveil on Friday, 29 May 2009 its latest offering, the Sky Garden at SM City North EDSA, SM Prime’s very first and currently the country’s largest shopping mall.

The highly innovative Sky Garden faces the northern end of Epifanio de los Santos Avenue (EDSA) in Quezon City. It is a 400-meter elevated walkway with a park-like ambiance and green architecture. Here, mall goers can stroll from one building to another through gardens of tropical trees and flowering plants and shrubs, the pathway shaded by a long stretch of the white canopy. Water is an added feature with fountains and shallow pools beneath glass-walled cafés and restaurants. A 24-meter waterfall can be seen by motorists along EDSA cascading down to a pool just in front of a new transport depot for public utility vehicles. Another unique feature that adds character from afar is the domed 1,000-seater amphitheater for shows and special events. The Sky Garden adds another 31,000 square meters to the country’s largest mall which now measures a total of 456,000 sqm. in gross floor area.

The Sky Garden’s curvilinear outline also transforms the old, box-like façade of SM North EDSA into a modern centerpiece as it pleasingly alters the skyline of the famous and historic avenue.

SM Prime President Mr. Hans T. Sy said, “At SM Prime, we eagerly explore new designs and architecture that can be applied to our malls. The Sky Garden is one such innovation that not only enhances the look and feels of SM City North EDSA, but also highlights our thrust to bring our customers closer to nature. This mall has dramatically evolved over the last two decades and sets the tone for our future mall development and expansion.”

The enhancement of SM North EDSA will not stop with the Sky Garden. Soon to be re-developed is the lower level of the mall’s existing carpark building which will be transformed into a vibrant home and lifestyle center.

For the rest of 2009, SM Prime is scheduled to open SM City Rosario in Cavite and SM City Pamplona in Las Piñas, in addition to SM City Naga which opened this month. By yearend, the company is expected to have 36 malls in the country, with an estimated total gross floor area of 4.9 million square meters.
