October 9, 2014, CITY OF SAN FERNANDO — Some 200 students from Santa Cruz Academy in Lubao town and Dominican School of Mexico rediscovered the art of letter writing in yesterday’s 2nd National Letter Writing Day at SM City Pampanga.

SM City Pampanga public relations manager Rain Cervantes said that the Philippine Postal Corporation (PhlPost) led the activity in cooperation with the Department of Education, Komisyon sa Wikang Filipino and SM Supermalls. SM City Clark has hosted a similar event.

“It aims to promote the art of letter writing as a means of communication especially in the digital age. It also aims to help students sharpen their composition skills and enjoy sending and receiving snail mail,” Cervantes said.

With the theme “Pinasaya,” participating students are expected to write to their loved ones, family and friends through handwritten letters.

Aside from SM City Pampanga, some 34 other participating SM malls and 1,000 selected schools will be joining in the event in different parts of the country.

The National Letter Writing Day is PhlPost’s annual event and hopes to secure a presidential proclamation to institutionalize the occasion. It coincides with the Word Post Day celebrated every October.
