June 13, 2015 – Antipolo City, Rizal — Some 400 members of the “Dumagat” tribe were feted to a day at the shopping mall through a project coordinated by the SM City Masinag, the Antipolo City Police Station, and the Philippine Army.
Superintendent Arthur Masungsong, chief of police, said the activity dubbed as “Project Dumagat Engagement Activity for Realization” or “Project DEAR” allowed mostly Dumagat children and their guardians to leave their upland village for a day of fun at the SM mall.
For almost a whole day, they were treated to a movie viewing, meals and parlor games at the SM City Masinag’s Events Center.
“They enjoyed watching a comedy movie on widescreen as laughter and giggling filled the venue,” said Inspector Anna Lisa Reyes, chief public information officer of the Antipolo Police.
Aside from food packs, the Dumagat kids were given school supplies and a pair of slippers during the activity.
Reyes said it was the second time Project DEAR has reached out to the minorities of the city as part of the police’s Community Relations Program.
Masungsong said the Project DEAR aims to make the minority recognize and realize of the police organization’s programs and projects that uphold their integrity and moral standards as members of the cultural minority groups as well as a way of exposure to the city culture as well preserving their ethnicity.
