MANILA, Philippines – Everyone is starting to go green, and SM Supermarket is taking its environment-friendly efforts a notch higher as it relaunches its recyclable grocery bags.
First introduced to the market in 2007, the newly-designed ‘Greenbag’ is part of the Sy-led firm’s campaign to discourage its customers from using plastic bags for grocery shopping.
The bright green bag is made from 100% polypropylene, a material that’s recyclable, non-toxic, allergy-free and non-reactive to human skin.
Its size is equivalent to 2 regular SM Supermarket plastic shopping bags and may last up to 2 years of weekly use.
‘SM is at a unique position to give back to the environment. Green is in now, but we want to take it from just a fad to a way of life,’ said SM Supermarket’s Hendrik Sy.
‘We want to do our part and encourage our shoppers to help save the world with us. Our hope is to trigger a chain reaction and make the Greenbag our first step towards a sustainable future. The Philippines has given us so much, it’s time to do our share in giving back to our country,’ he added.
The Greenbag costs P35 each and can be bought at SM Supermarkets nationwide.
