Former United States Vice-President Al Gore will visit Manila this year to speak on the latest about climate change, the global scourge Philippines President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo is helping address.

SM Shopping Center Management Corporation President Annie Garcia announced this event, noting Mr. Gore’s talk will focus on climate change in Asia.

“We take pride in announcing that on April 30 this year, SM Prime Holdings Inc. will bring in Mr. Gore to speak on his updated version of “An Inconvenient Truth” so we hope many of you can join us then,” she said Wednesday at SM North Edsa during opening of the one-day nationwide SM Green Film Festival.

“An Inconvenient Truth” is the 2006 Academy Award-winning documentary covering Mr. Gore’s campaign to inform people about global warming and climate change this produces.

Garcia said Mr. Gore will speak at SMX Convention Center next to SM Mall of Asia in Pasay City.

“We hope to have the President there as our very special guest,” she noted.

Experts already explained emission of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases trap heat in the atmosphere, causing global temperature to rise.

Such temperature rise alters climatic patterns worldwide, they noted.

In the Philippines, President Macapagal-Arroyo signed last year the Climate Change Act so all government agencies can undertake coordinated measures that’ll help the country adapt to climate change and lower GHG emissions causing global warming. — NNN-PNA
