NEGROS OCCIDENTAL, April 29(PIA6) – – Tuesdays will become movie date day for senior citizens in Bacolod City as the local government of Bacolod and the SM Prime Holdings Incorporated are set to sign the Memorandum of Agreement.
Bacolod City Mayor Monico Puentevella had already requested the Sangguniang Panlungsod to give him the authority to sign the agreement in behalf of the City while SM Lifestyle Entertainment Inc. President Edgar Tejerero is set to represent SM Prime Holdings.
A press release from the city states that in the agreement, senior citizens will have a 100 percent free admission privilege to the SM Cinemas on Tuesdays provided this does not fall on a holiday and is limited to only one movie only.
Sneak previous, advance screenings, premiere nights, special public screenings, reserved screenings and sports or live events shall not be covered by the said admission.
“This will definitely be a blessing to our senior citizens. With our movie industry starting to gain grounds again, our lolos and lolas can now enjoy, relax, and see their favorite actors for free,” Puentevella said.
The City Legal Office (CLO) already reviewed the MOA and concluded that it is sufficient in content and form and that such agreement is beneficial to the senior citizens of the community with no objections.
The city’s financial obligations will be covered by and taken from the amusement tax due thereto and shall pursue Republic Act No 7432 and 9257 that pushes for the twenty percent (20%) discount privilege to senior citizens on admission fees in cinema houses, among others.
The SP similarly approved City Ordinance No. 501 Series of 2009 that entitles senior citizens to avail a hundred percent discount on cinema admission or free admission to cinema houses within Bacolod’s jurisdiction.*(JCM/EAD-PIA6 Negros Occidentl)
