SM City Baguio has granted a request of Benguet government for tree seedlings, which it intends to use for its environment conservation efforts.

The mall management recently said it will donate 10,000 assorted seedlings each to five Benguet towns, in response to the request of the province through a board resolution for coffee, fruit-bearing trees, and pine tree seedlings to Kabayan, Bokod, Sablan, Tuba, and Itogon.

In the resolution filed during first quarter, the board banked on SM’s consistent participation in Baguio City’s program for the conservation, preservation, and protection of the environment by extending assistance and services that address environmental issues and concerns.

They also gathered that SM so far has already donated 30,000 tree seedlings for the reforestation program of Baguio City.

The board said through the resolution, Benguet “intends to also be a recipient of the benevolence of SM on this particular environmental matter, as one of the province’s thrusts is environment protection and conservation.”

The city’s nearby towns are the latest recipients of assistance from SM, which has made greening projects and environment conservation a part of its corporate social responsibility. Aside from donating seedlings, SM employees and partner agencies plant tree seedlings in various parts of the city, including a portion of the Busol watershed it has adopted and visit regularly.

The mall management is targeting to meet, or even surpass, its goal to plant 50,000 trees in the city this year.
