SM Investments Corporation vice-chair Teresity Sy urged the private sector to heed government’s call and look at business opportunities in the country’s infrastructure program during the opening of the Government Infrastructure Forum Wednesday.
‘The government sees the urgency of the infrastructures right now, and understands better than before, the immediate economic and social impact of these programs,’ she said adding that there is no better time than now to listen and look at these business opportunities.
Sy noted that President Gloria Arroyo is focusing on the infrastructure backlog as the immediate task this time as this urgent task must be accomplished if national prosperity is to be pursued.
‘We need not always agree on details, but as long as we are broadminded enough to consider good ideas from wherever they originate, we can transcend our larger division, work together with each other, and be able to achieve national growth and fair returns for the private sectors,’ she said.
Sy said last week’s typhoon made everyone realize the consequences of infrastructure breakdown, and were confronted by the fragility of the country’s infrastructure when power supply, telecommunication, the information network, the transport system, potable water, were all affected.
