SOLAR PHILIPPINES Power Project Holdings, Inc. has set a target to install rooftop systems totaling some 30 megawatts (MW) next year, the company’s top official said recently.
Leandro L. Leviste, Solar Philippines president, said the company wants to introduce solar energy to big shopping malls in the country.
“Between Robinson’s, SM and some other large malls, we should have around 20 malls finished by maybe next summer,” he said on the sidelines of PowerTrends 2015 in Pasay City.
He said these will involve a total of 30 MW — since most installations will involve capacities of around 1 MW each.
Among Solar Philippines’ operational facilities are the 700-kilowatt (kW) solar rooftop of Central Mall in Biñan, Laguna; and SM North Edsa’s 1.5-MW facility in Quezon City.
Similar facilities will also be put up in SM Mall of Asia in Pasay City (2.7 MW) and SM Dasmariñas in Cavite (800 kW) in partnership with SM Prime Holdings, Inc.
Mr. Leviste said four more projects with Robinson’s malls are also under the development stage.
“There are many more in the pipeline with them (SM and Robinson’s),” Mr. Leviste said.
Solar Philippines is a local company that finances solar installations. The company designs, engineers, constructs, installs and maintains large-scale rooftop projects.
The company earlier this year also partnered with Citicore Power, Inc., an affiliate of listed Megawide Construction Corp., to develop 250 MW worth of solar projects worth $625 million by next year.
The first project — which will serve as Citicore Power’s maiden project — will involve a 70-MW solar farm in Batangas that will be operational late this year.
The 250-MW solar projects will form part of the 400-MW portfolio being planned by Citicore Power, which is a subsidiary of infrastructure group Citicore Holdings, Inc.
