The European Chamber of Commerce of the Philippines (ECCP) said it would partner with the country’s biggest mall developer for a campaign promoting energy efficiency.
“Energy conservation and efficiency should be a high priority among businesses in the country,” Henry Schumacher, ECCP executive vice president, said.
“SMPH can set an example for the entire country by making sure that everyone involved in its business are adopting sustainable energy policies,” he said, referring to SM Prime Holdings Inc. “Not only will this result in huge savings for the companies, but also it will ensure that the environment is protected.”
Schumacher said going “green” would augur well for SM malls, given the increasing number of Filipino consumers who purchase clean, green and socially sustainable products.
To become more energy efficient, SMPH should ask its service providers, suppliers and tenants to cut down on their power usage, the ECCP official said.
He said the company should aim “to make available competitively priced goods and services with the least negative corporate impact on the ecology.”
SM malls hold a twice-a-month recycling market, wherein consumers could trade trash for cash or recyclable shopping bags, among other environment friendly stuff.
