FILIPINO Olympian Michael Martinez finished sixth in the recently Lombardia Trophy in Mila, Italy. The 17-year-old Martinez had a final score of 199.92 points to place in the upper half of the standings in a field of 13 skaters. The tournament held September 18-21, was the first competition Martinez joined since winning a gold medal in the Triglav Trophy in Slovenia last April. Richard Dornbush of the US won the meet with a final score of 237.78 points. The competition is part of the International Skating Union (ISU) Challenger Series in Figure Skating 2014/2015 or a series of senior international skating events below the Grand Prix series that allow skaters to earn world standing points. This year, the competition drew 120 skaters from 26 nations. Martinez is set to compete in the Hilton Honors Skate America in Chicago, Illinois from October 24 to 26, which will be the first of six events that make up the 2014 Grand Prix Series.
