SM Prime Holdings Inc. has opened SM City Tianjin, the company’s seventh mall in China.

In an emailed statement, SM Prime said it soft opened SM City Tianjin on Saturday, December 17.

The new mall – with a gross floor area of 565,000 square meters – is within the Tianjin Airport Economic Area at the Binhai New Area, supposedly Northern China’s largest free trade zone and home to over 2,000 enterprises from 130 countries.

“The opening of SM City Tianjin reflects our strong confidence in China’s economy. This gives SM Prime a wider perspective on China’s shopping culture, allowing us to capture bigger opportunities as an international integrated property developer,” SM Prime President Jeffrey C. Lim said.

SM City Tianjin is the seventh mall in China after SM City Xiamen, SM City Jinjiang, SM City Chengdu, SM City Suzhou, SM City Chongqing, and SM City Zibo, with a combined gross floor area of 1.5 million square meters.

SM Prime also has 60 malls in the Philippines.
