MANILA, Philippines — Lorelei “Lottie” Salarda, InterAksyon.com’s correspondent in Tacloban City, Leyte, has been chosen one of the 20 recipients of the S.U.P.E.R. Awards for Media from the SM Foundation in recognition of ‘her exceptional and heroic coverage of super typhoon Yolanda.”

TV5’s Benjie Dorango and Erwin Tulfo were also chosen to receive the award.

Salarda was an anchor and reporter of Tacloban radio station dyBR and was on duty when the storm struck on November 8 last year, surviving the onslaught that claimed the lives of two colleagues.

She has since done several reports detailing the continuing travails of Yolanda survivors in her province even as she continued to work to finish her law degree, graduating last month.

Among the stories she has done are those on Pedro Lacandazo, who lost 22 relatives but works to move on by helping others, the dumping of relief goods and the distribution of spoiled food to survivors, the plight of Leyte’s coconut farmers, the continued recovery of dead bodies six months after the storm, and black sand mining.

The S.U.P.E.R. (for Salute to Outstanding People, Endeavors and Resources) Awards will be given on Monday, May 19, at the SMX Convention Center, Mall of Asia in Pasay City.
