April 16, 2014 — The Philippines will host the International Skating Union (ISU) for the second straight year on April 21 to 26 at the SM Skating Rink in the newly-opened Mega Fashion Hall of SM Megamall.
Organized by world-governing body ISU in partnership with the Philippine Skating Union (PhSU), the event will feature a total of 56 skaters from 15 countries including six Filipinos who will compete in the Juniors, Novice A and Novice B categories.
The Philippine contingent will be represented by Sofia Guidote, Audrey Alcaraz, Alyssa Comia, Elia Mendoza, Keith Stephanie Angeles and Dominique Katigbak, who are all hoping to follow the footsteps of Sochi Winter Olympian Michael Christian Martinez.
Out to give the hosts a run for their money are skaters from Argentina, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Mongolia, New Zealand, North Korea, Singapore, South Africa, Taiwan, Thailand, United Arab Emirates and Uzbekistan.
The PhSU also hosted last year’s tournament that saw 53 qualified skaters and coaches from 11 countries participating at the SM Mall of Asia Ice Skating Rink.
The PhSU is geared towards hosting future international events such as the Asian Short Track Speed Skating Development Trophy, the 1st ISU Asian Figure Skating Championship and eventually the ISU World Juniors and the ISU Four Continents Championships.
