MOLINO, Bacoor, Cavite, October 14 (PIA) — As part of the SM Supermall’s corporate social responsibility with the community, SM Center Molino joins other 41 malls nationwide to celebrate today the Global Handwashing Day (GHD).
A total of 130 elementary students grades 1 to 6 from Likha Molino IV Elementary School and Salawag Elementary School were invited to take part in this advocacy.
GHD is a campaign to motivate and mobilize millions around the world to wash their hands with soap. Said campaign is dedicated to raising awareness of handwashing with soap as a key approach to disease prevention.
Restituto R. Ramos, Jr. assistant mall manager of SM Center Molino emphasized that proper hand washing has been part of the malls advocacy to inform and educate its customers even before the SARS scare in early year 2000 as they (SM Malls) embraced the challenged and to step-up beyond what is necessary and continuously promote good hygiene and clean living.
In her inspirational message, Dr. Jocelyn Caballes from the municipal health office, representing Mayor Strike Revilla said that clean hands is the first step to be healthy and with proper guidance from parents and teachers as well and likely achieve the control of diseases.
An open discussion with kids on the benefits and importance of handwashing plus actual hand washing demonstration called “High Five” was prepared by the SM Molino staff for the children including gift packs courtesy of Unilever.
This is the third simultaneous handwashing activity of the SM Center Molino in cooperation with the Department of Health (DOH), the World Health Organization (WHO), UNICEF, and Unilever Philippines. (Ruel Francisco, PIA-Cavite)
