TRECE MARTIRES CITY, Cavite, April 3 (PIA) — Five SM Supermalls in the province are pushing for a greener, sustainable environment in business through the Green Retail Agenda aimed at creating strategies that promotes environment-friendly businesses in every community where their malls are located. 

Part of this advocacy is the use of eco-friendly eco-bags which supports an ordinance (banning or regulating the use of plastic bags and styrophor) passed by respective city and municipal Sangguniang Lungsod/Bayan. 

A conference was held recently where several speakers shared their knowledge and expertise on formulating alternative programs for safeguarding the environment without sacrificing business focused on empowerment of business people through sustainability. 

Mr. Victor Baylosis, managing director of the Meralco Electric Company (Meralco) talked about energy efficiency and the use of electric vehicles. He also pushed for the use of Light Emitting Diodes (LED) lights because it consumes less energy compared to the traditional incandescent bulbs. 

The Green Retail Agenda is a part of the SM Cares program being implemented by the environmental committee. SM continues to advocate for efficient and sustainable practices in an effort to promote a green environment. (CPG/Ruel Francisco, PIA-Cavite/SM Cares)
