Marilao, Bulacan — The SM City here was set aglow with over 1,500 solar tulips made from recycled soda bottles and light-emitting diodes or LEDs. The solar tulips arranged in “60+” at the mall’s façade garden represented the company’s commitment and global pledge to help mitigate the impact of climate change.

Gladyz May Latiza, mall public relations manager, said joining the Earth Hour on its eighth years call for action is to reduce energy consumption by shifting to renewable energy and energy-efficient technologies.

With this, the SM City of this town partnered with All About Solar; a solar technology company that installs Hybrid Solar Technology System for households and businesses, to develop the alternative power supply to light the solar tulips.
Using flowers that blossom every March, each of the tulip bulbs contains a LED and battery circuits powered by solar panel to provide low cost lighting at night.

All About Solar Managing Director Robert Sakhrani, said that solar solutions for households and businesses can reduce energy consumption by up to 60% a month while lowering carbon footprint.

“The solar light installation hoped to provide an imaginative and inspirational focal point to help mobilize Bulakeños as well as other businesses in sharing responsibility and acting at a very practical level to reduce collective impact of climate change on the earth,” Sakhrani said.
