SM Supermalls among leading contributors of real property and local business taxes in taxable year 2015.

Mall giant SM Supermalls has maintained its position as one of the country’s top taxpayers for taxable year 2015.

The company said six of its malls were recognized as the top filers of both local business tax and real property tax:

SM Megamall (Mandaluyong City)
SM City Masinag (Antipolo, Rizal)
SM City Bacoor (Cavite)
SM City Molino (Bacoor, Cavite)
SM City Baguio
SM City Naga (Camarines Sur)

Meanwhile, 20 other SM malls were at the top of the list of real property taxpayers in their localities:

SM Southmall (Las Piñas City)
SM Center Las Piñas
SM City North EDSA (Quezon City)
SM City Fairview (Quezon City)
SM City Novaliches (Quezon City)
SM City Dasmariñas (Cavite)
SM Marketmall Dasmariñas (Cavite)
SM City Sta. Mesa (Quezon City)
SM Baliwag (Bulacan)
SM City Cauayan (Isabela)
SM City Lucena (Quezon)
SM City Olongapo (Zambales)
SM City Rosales (Pangasinan)

In taxable year 2014, the Bureau of Internal Revenue named SM the ninth top non-individual taxpayer, contributing P3.1 billion in taxes.

“Part of our mission is to provide opportunities where we are present. It is our social responsibility to pay our taxes transparently and on time so that our respective communities can continue to finance its own economic development programs,” said Annie Garcia, SM Supermalls president.

SM said its presence in communities helped create jobs, boost tourism and encourage local businesses to take advantage of the malls’ large customer traffic.
