Baliuag, Bulacan — As part of its year-long celebration of the 30th anniversary of SM Supermalls the Liwanag crochet art works of Aze Ong, was launched Wednesday afternoon at SM City atrium here.
Teachers, students and other visitors from various places in Central Luzon flocked to see the crochet art works and the artist herself, who even performed a dance wearing a Talaandig tribe traditional attire from Bukidnon.
Ong was well-applauded for her “Binanog” performance, a dance mimicking birds in flight.
Bulacan provincial tourism officials headed by Dr. Ely dela Cruz, local officials in this town headed by Baliuag Mayor Carolina Lacson Dellosa, and NCCA committee on visual arts of Central Luzon led by Andrew de Guzman were also in awe.
Addressing the crowd after her performance, Ong explained that “Liwanag,” in reference to her crochet art works, means enlightenment and represent the next stage in her phase in life in which she has found inner peace and spiritual freedom.
The crochet artist shared that repetitiveness of the process and feeling of accomplishment gave her a fulfillment. She said she shares her process by volunteering and participating with workshops that touch on inspiration and healing.
Ong said she learned to crochet while taking classes at Assumption Antipolo and since then it has been a journey that took her to Mindanao.
