SM Prime Holdings, the Quezon City Government, and the Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) recently signed a memorandum of agreement (MOA) for a new MMDA footbridge that will connect SM North EDSA to the existing footbridge network in the vicinity.

SM offered to finance and implement the entire cost of a new MMDA footbridge. MMDA will be constructing a steel footbridge crossing EDSA to SM City North EDSA that will serve thousands of pedestrians going to and from SM City North EDSA. The footbridge will not only provide safety to pedestrians but also ease the flow of vehicular traffice in the street level.

SM Prime Holdingss president Hans Sy, MMDA Chairman Bayani Fernando and Mayor Sonny Belmonte of Quezon City led the MOA signing at The Block at SM City North EDSA. They were joined by SCMC president Annie Garcia, SM Supermalls AVP Bien Mateo, DPWH Regional Director Roberto Lala, MMDA director Ramon Ona and QC city engineer Chito Cabungkal.

Since SM City North EDSA is currently re-developing, the mall plans to construct an elevated and fully integrated green park within its property.

For the best interest of its mall patrons, the Quezon City Government, the surrounding communities, and the public in general, the MMDA, QC government, and DPWH have agreed to accept SM’s proposal. The footbridge scheduled to be completed this September.
