AS IT marked its second anniversary, Mall of Asia (MOA) Arena unveiled the country’s largest digital billboard — more than 700 square meters — located at the center of the arena’s distinctive eye-shaped installation.
“As Mall of Asia Arena [attracts many] patrons at a time because of the local and international acts it houses, and as it is one of the main attractions in the Mall of Asia complex, it is just fitting that the center of its eye is the Philippines’ biggest LED billboard,” said Edgar C. Tejerero, SM Lifestyle Entertainment Inc. president.
Called the MOA Arena Media Mesh, the billboard, located at the Marina entrance, will feature promotional materials of MOA Arena events, advertisements of brand partners, and as part of its community service, newsfeeds, weather updates, traffic updates, and other information useful to the general public.
“It’s by design that we’re relegating about five hours for [the] community billboard,” Mr. Tejerero said during the launch on June 17. Though they still haven’t decided which television network will provide the newsfeeds, the Media Mesh will be featuring pertinent information depending on its availability.
According to Mr. Tejerero, the MOA complex enjoys foot traffic of around 500,000 during weekdays to a million on weekends, and since the Mesh faces the mall, many of these people will be able to view the giant billboard. He also expects the mall to attract even more foot traffic in around two years after the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp.’s nearby Entertainment City is up and running, making the Mesh even more relevant.
Though largely used for visuals, the billboard is also capable of live streams with sound, and come December, Mr. Tejerero said that they are planning to use the screen in such a way that people will come and watch something on it like a film.
The MOA Arena Media Mesh runs from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily. For more information visit www.mallofasia-arena.com. — Zsarlene B. Chua
