MANILA, Philippines – Automated weather stations will soon be installed in SM malls around the country.
WeatherPhilippines Foundation (WPF) said SM Super Malls has committed to the deployment and installation of 52 automated weather stations throughout the Philippines.
WPF is a non-profit organization founded by Aboitiz Foundation Inc., Unionbank and Europe’s leading weather service provider Meteomedia.
“Our partnership with SM Super Malls will aid in the rapid deployment of strategically located automated weather stations across the country. This partnership allows WPF to have a wider reach in the communication of localized weather information to the Filipino people,” Celso Caballero, general manager of Weather Philippines Foundation, said.
WeatherPhilippines Foundation aims to install roughly 1,000 automated weather stations in the country before end 2013. At present, it has approximately 400 AWS in various locations across the Philippines.
WPF aims to deliver critical and accurate localized weather information to aid local government units, communities, and individuals in disaster risk preparedness and timely response to variable weather conditions.
WPF utilizes the extensive, nationwide network of the Aboitiz Group along with the technical expertise of Swiss firm Meteomedia which is one of Europe’s largest meteorological measurement networks.
