Apr. 30, 2014 — FILIPINO skaters won two medals at the close of the 2014 International Skating Union Development Trophy competitions last Saturday at the newly opened skating rink inside the Mega Fashion Hall in SM Megamall, Mandaluyong.
Sofia Guidote settled for the silver with a score of 36.17 points behind Korean Hyang Mi Ro (42.44 points) in the girls’ basic novice A category.
Elia Mariel Mendoza earned the bronze medal with 32.86 points in the girls’ basic novice B side.
Korean Un Hyang Kim took the gold with 40.98 points, with South African Courtney Kuhn getting the silver with 36.52 points.
Event moderator Folle Shanetta praised skills of the kids, who took part in the training camp and one-day competition.
“Some of the kids have good skills, while others are proficient, given the opportunities they have in figure skating,” said Shanetta.
Around 56 skaters from 15 countries took part in the event, which the International Skating Union organized in partnership with the Philippine Skating Union.
