TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan, May 18 (PIA) – – The Council for the Welfare of Children (CWC) urged every individual to donate pencils to fulfill its ‘One Million Lapis’ advocacy for the underprivileged children.
Atty. Marijoy D. Segui, deputy executive director, said the 1M lapis to be collected will be given to poor students in the elementary schools of 4th to 6th class municipalities and might a Guinness World Records for the longest line of pencil category.
She said the project was launched in November last year during the observance of the National Children’s Month in Manila in partnership with the Department of Education, SM Super Malls and SM Cares.
“We were able to get the commitment of SM Supermalls and National Bookstore for the 300,000 and 50,000 pencils, respectively. We also enrolled the longest line of lapis for the Guinness as part of our 2016 National Children’s Month celebration,” Segui said.
She said they are seeking assistance from various government and private organizations to help collect more pencils nationwide to meet the target number for the said advocacy.
For those who are willing to take part in the said endeavor in the region, the Philippine Information Agency (PIA) Region 2 will receive donations for submission to CWC headquarters in Manila, Director Purita S. Licas said. (ALM/OTB/PIA-Cagayan)
