A 3-day senior citizens’ bazaar and trade fair opened at the North Wing of SM City Bacolod yesterday, in line with the celebration of Grandparents Day on Sunday.

There are four groups of senior citizen’s participating the trade fair and they are joined by SM’s senior citizen’s staff, or senior mall greeters, elderly members of the Zonta Club of Bacolod and Office of the Senior Citizen’s Affairs May Castro,

Castro said SM has offered the mini food court at the mall for the elderly to sell their crafts, jewelry and food products for free, and they can keep all the proceeds from the sale of their items.
This is just one of their programs for senior citizen’s, aside from their regular senior’s day in the mall, she said.

Last month they had another activity for the elderly in celebration of Cyber Month where senior citizens were introduced to modern technology, she said adding that during December they have a senior’s Christmas party, caroling contest, and other activities for them to enjoy.

They have already assisted 20 beneficiaries under their senior citizen’s staff program and by October they will assist another group of 10 senior citizens for the third batch.

Castro said all 46 malls of SM City are also holding Grandparents Day fairs all over the country. They will have a “Lolo and Lola” event with their grandchildren at the mini food court of SM North Wing on Sunday, and e a singing and photo contest during the event, she added.*CGS
