SM Megamall bus bay

MANILA, Philippines – In its continuing commitment to serve the community, SM Prime Holdings Inc. has built bus bays in SM Megamall and SM North Edsa meant to provide safety for the riding public and ease traffic congestion along the stretch of EDSA.

The SM North Edsa and SM Megamall bus bays aim to support the local governments by enabling smoother traffic and making it safer for commuters as they wait for the buses within the premises that are fully lighted and manned by the malls’ security personnel.

The project started at SM City North Edsa, the first mall in Metro Manila to provide this type of unique service to its customers, contributing to decongesting traffic around northern Metro Manila.

This was followed by SM Megamall’s own bus bay which provides significant breathing space along EDSA’s busier mid-sections.

SM City North Edsa’s bus bay has a total of nine lanes that accommodate over 2,000 buses daily. SM Megamall’s bus bay, on the other hand, has seven lanes and room for 12-18 buses at one time.

The accompanying car parks and transport terminals of SM North Edsa and SM Megamall allow public bus access meant to improve traffic along EDSA and the adjoining streets.

Mandaluyong City Mayor Benhur Abalos credits SM Megamall as an established Mandaluyong shopping landmark.

“The convenience added by the SM car park building and public transport terminal reflects the city’s progressive spirit, proactively looking after the needs of the people,” Abalos said.

Celso Ylagan, director of the Ortigas Center Administration Inc., lauded the new SM Megamall bus bay as a “clear example of good general public and customer service.”

To benefit its public, SM ensures that these bus bays are maintained regularly, guarded and kept safe and lighted well, making them a boon for both the public transport-riding mall customers and residents, in close coordination with the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority.
