Nov. 22, 2014 – After a sad Christmas last year, the beneficiaries of the 200 houses at the SM Cares Village in Barangay Polambato, Bogo City, can now look forward to a Merry Christmas.  The 200 houses constructed to withstand a Category 5 supertyphoon were recently turned over by SM Foundation.

In accepting the donation, Bogo City Mayor Celestino Martinez said that the “homes provide a start for these families—-a new beginning.”

Aside from the new houses,  the beneficiary families also received gift packs consisting of clothes from Forever 21 and Uniqlo; and shoes from Bata and Sole.  SM Foundation tapped SM scholars from Cebu to undertake the repacking of the gifts for distribution.

SM Care Village is provided with utilities, streetlights, a community center and a basketball court for recreation.  The structures are designed with heat-resistant painted roofing to increase energy efficiency yet lowering temperature inside.

A thousand disaster-resilient houses will be constructed to be given to survivors of supertyphoon Yolanda.

The SM Cares Village in Bogo is the first among other SM Cares villages lined up in Concepcion, Iloilo; New Kawayan, Tacloban City; and in Ormoc City.
