A special treat awaits vision and hearing impaired individuals as several branches of SM Cinemas nationwide will host special movie screenings today starting at 9 a.m.

Dubbed as the “Special Movie Screening for the Blind and Deaf”, the rare event is spearheaded by SM Cares, a division of SM Foundation, through its Program on Disability Affairs in partnership with SM Cinema, Deaf-Blind Support Philippines, MTRCB, and C.A.L.L. (Center for Advocacy, Learning, and Livelihood).

In Metro Manila, SM North EDSA will host the special screening of the movie “Hugo’’ while simultaneous screenings will be held at SM Baguio which will feature the movie Life of Pi; SM Davao which will show Les Miserables and SM Iloilo which will feature the movie Taken 2.

The featured movies will have an audio-descriptions and sub-titles to suit the needs of persons with visual and hearing impairments.

Bien Mateo, Program Director of Disability Affairs of SM Cares and SM Supermalls vice president for North Luzon said the event is also supported by various People with Disability (PWD) organizations such as AKAP Pinoy, Philippine Blind Union, National Council on Disability Affairs, and the Philippine Foundation for the Rehabilitation of the Disabled.

After the positive feedback in last year’s special screening at the SM Megamall, Mateo said they had expanded this year’s screening to other malls to accommodate more persons with visual and hearing impairments.
