As part of their corporate social responsibility, SM City Bacoor hosted the recent “Art for Pinoy” featuring a well known Filipino sculptor and painter holding a series of workshop to share knowledge to young breed of Filipinos who want to excel in the field of arts.
Joe Datuin specializes in the field of sculpture and painting as well. One of his masterpiece, the “Dancing Rings,” won a grand prize in 2008 International Olympic Committee Sports and Art Contest in Lausanne in Switzerland with 35 countries competing the prestigious award. It was, as the same time part of the public show of the 2008 Beijing Olympics in China.
During one of the series of workshop, Datuin presented to Henry Sy, founder of SM Group and chairman of SM Prime Holdings another masterpiece for his invaluable services to the country by helping and giving job opportunities to the people.
Sy, acknowledged as the country’s “Retail King” began his shoe store in Quiapo in Manila in 1946 and expanding until his business became the largest shopping mall operator in the country with over 41 malls throughout the Philippines and still counting.
Datuin’s original Dancing Ring masterpiece is currently at the International Olympic Committee Museum in Lausanne, Switzerland. The replica and other sculptures can be seen at the Luneta. (Ruel Francisco, PIA-Cavite)
