BALIWAG, Bulacan—Economic hardship did not stop a mall security guard from showing nobility of character, as he returned to its rightful owner P2.4 million in a black purse that she had left behind at SM City Baliwag.

With this, SM City Baliwag commended the exemplary service of Trinidad Quintana, mall guard, saying his act of returning the money on April 17 will always be an inspiration to everyone.

Quintana of the Roger Jerson Cosme Security Agency was stationed at the SM Baliwag’s Food Court area at about 5:30 p.m. and was doing his usual rounds when he noticed a black purse on a bench not far from a couple dining at the area. Worried that the couple might forget the purse, Quintana politely approached them and asked if the black purse belonged to them. Surprised that there was an item near them, the couple said maybe it belonged to someone else.

Quintana quickly brought the lost item to the Security Office to report the incident. In the presence of Mr. Fernandez, customer relations manager, and other guards, they opened the bag and were shocked to see P2.4 million worth of checks and P35,000 in cash inside.

Matias Cruz was on his way to do his bank transaction when he noticed his purse missing. He immediately returned to the Food Court area and informed one of the guards about the lost item. Cruz was brought to the security office, where he verified that the black purse was his.

He took Quintana’s hand and thanked him for retrieving the bag.
