Dec. 08, 2014 – CAUAYAN CITY, Isabela —SM City Cauayan, the first super mall in the Cagayan Valley region, has offered scholarships to deserving students for school year 2015-2016, Mayor Bernard Faustino Dy said on Sunday.

He commended SM City management for its corporate social responsibility program, which was open to students from other towns in the region.

“We are so thankful for having this privilege in the city aside from the more than 2,000 residents of Cauayan employed in the mall since it opened last October 19,” Dy said.

The scholarship is open to graduating students in public schools. Deadline for submission of application forms, which are available at the SM Cauayan Mall Administration Office, is on December 20.

Applicants should belong to households with annual income of P150,000 or less. Those qualified will be entitled to free tuition and allowances.

SM City Cauayan public relations officer Krystal Agbulig said the scholarship program has produced nearly 2,000 graduates since 1993 and many of them were now employed in their chosen fields.

She said the scholar can earn extra income with summer jobs but they will not be required to work for SM after graduation as payback for their education.

The scholarship program was part of a vision of SM patriarch Henry Sy to send one child from a poor family to college to qualify for a better paying job and help his family overcome poverty.
