DAVAO CITY, Jan. 19 (PNA) — Conscious of protecting the environment, Dabawenyos of all walks of life Monday joined in the launching of the Green Bag of SM Supermalls here.

Russel D. Alaba, SM Supermall group brand manager for Visayas and Mindanao, said about one million bags were produced for their environmental campaign until April 2009.

The campaign, he said, is being carried in 33 SM Supermalls nationwide from January until April this year where it was conceived with the malls recycling principle. The eco-friendly bag is intended to reduce solid waste as customers shop in SM malls.

He said priced at P35.00 each, a donation of P1.00 will go to an environmental cause for every purchase of the green bag. SM Prestige/Advantage Card Holders will be given two extra reward points every time they use the green bag for groceries at SM Supermarket, SM Hypermarket and Savemore.

The green bag is made of hard wearing, non-woven fabric, 100 percent polypropylene that will last for two years of weekly use, he said.

He said polypropylene is recyclable, non-toxic, allergy-free and non-reactive to human skin.

The bag also features the work of art of famous Manuel ‘Manny’ Baldemor where four designs namely Graces from Air for air component, Graces from the Water, water component, Graces from the Land, land or earth component, and Spiritual Light and Supreme Energy for energy component.
