MANILA – The SM Group said it will soon start building four condominium buildings in Chengdu, its first residential project in China.

The project will be built beside SM’s Chengdu mall.

SM currently has five malls in China and plans to build one a year.

A report from the Philippine Daily Inquirer said the project will have a maximum of 2,000 units with a minimum floor area of 40 square meters each, bigger than SM’s smallest condos in the Philippines of as little as 24 square meters each.

The report said SM won’t be able to pre-sell because based on China laws, the company has to complete a building before offering it to the public.

SM officials didn’t immediately confirm the report. – ANC
