SM Foundation has activated its calamity-response program Operation: Tulong Express, with donation kiosks set up in all 33 malls nationwide.
All donations collected will be turned over to Caritas. The foundation is enjoining mall shoppers and tenants to donate cash or relief goods
like canned goods, bottled water, blankets, clothing and other basic necessities like cleaning aids that would be distributed to the victims in various areas affected by the onslaught of Typhoon Ondoy.
Now that the flood waters have receded and residents have returned to their homes, the gargantuan task of cleaning their mud-covered homes starts.
Donations in kind will be brought to SM warehouses of the malls which are currently serving as packing centers of relief goods. SM trucks and vans are used to bring the goods to distribution areas manned by SM Foundation staff and volunteers. Earlier SM sent 30,000 packs of relief goods to ABS-CBN which are also being distributed to various areas; Belo Group of Companies partnered with the foundation by donating 2,500 bags containing relief goods.
More suppliers, clients, contractors and friends of the SM family are currently handing in their donations to the flood victims through the SM Foundation.
Meanwhile, medical missions and food distribution have been set up by SM Foundation in Marikina, Quezon City and Bulacan and to aid the victims in the ravaged areas.
As early as Sunday morning, food distribution and medical missions were already undertaken in barangay Santo Cristo in Quezon City and at the Concepcion Integrated School for residents of barangay Tumana and barangay Nangka in Marikina.
On Wednesday medical missions and distribution of relief goods with cleaning aids were set up in Marilao, Bulacan. Henceforth, all relief goods will contain not only food items but cleaning aids that should come in handy at this time.
SM malls in Marikina, Mall of Asia and other SM malls allowed people to stay overnight and provided stranded mall goers and employees with coffee and sandwiches, and allowed them to sleep in benches and on chairs.
